Move Programs from SSD

Thread Starter
This issue is older than dirt. So, sorry.

Basically I have two SSD's on one of my computers. I tried for ages to set them up in RAID 0 and failed - water under the bridge and I no longer care.

What I would like to do is move programs from one SSD (nearly full) to another (virtually empty) - i.e., spread out the program load as I had intended to do with RAID 0.

There is a highly praised program called "SSD Boost Manager" that is supposed to do that quite nicely. Only problem is that it is written entirely in French (damn French are as arrogant about their language as we English speakers are bruce.gif ).

Although I have a fair amount of confidence in my French, I do not wish to risk a system crash on a misinterpretation of their meaning vis-a-vis computers or this program.

Any suggestions? biggrin.gif

Software RAID might be a solution: http://snapraid.sourceforge.net/

I haven't tried this software yet so test it out with spare HDD's if you can first.

STEAM MOVER!!!!!
http://lifehacker.com/5626931/steam-mover-relocates-applications-to-free-up-space-on-your-primary-drive
Basically it moves the files to whatever drive-folder you want and then just creates junction points to link to the data directories of the program

It's 5:00 am and I've had about 3 hours of sleep. Kind of in a fit of extreme depression. I used Steam Mover and crashed my computer beyond repair. It's so messed up even System Restore laughs at me.

Right now I'm trying to learn how to do it right - set up from the beginning with RAID 0.

Here is what I posted on the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula group:
Quote:
Rig Setup:

1) CH4 (obviously) w/16 GB of RAM
2) 2 X25-M Intel SSD's - 80 Gig each
3) HDD - too many TB's to even talk about

Recently I tried to move some of my Programs from one SSD to another and, voila!, I crashed my computer so bad even System Restore laughs at me.

Now, here's my problem. I want to do what I tried to do before - and failed miserably: Set up my 2 Intel SSD's in RAID 0.

Now, why am I posting here instead of on an SSD site (well I will, later)? Because this is more of a CH4 motherboard problem than anything else. When I go into the BIOS and set SATA 1-4 as RAID, not a darned thing happens. When I set SATA 1-4 at AHCI and SATA 5, 6 on either AHCI or IDE (I believe IDE is preferable because I have an optical and a blu-ray on 5 and 6), well I get what I had before: Only 1 option, only 1 choice. I need to choose which of the 2 SSD's I want to install on. No RAID 0 option shown, actual no RAID options shown.

I set things up this way (AHCI on SATA 1-4) and used one of my two SSD's as the C partition. I tried, oh how I tried, installing most of the programs on the second SSD (the B partition). Never mind. My C drive on the 1st SSD just filled up and my 2nd SSD sat there virtually empty.

Now on the Gigabyte boards, I see an option in the BIOS to setup RAID - whichever flavor you like. Not so on the CH4.

Can anyone tell me how to set these 2 Intel X25-M SSD's in RAID 0?

Thanks
So sorry to be such an absolute PITA. redface.gif

Still haven't put my rig together yet (modding is taking longer than I thought) but I seem to remember the manual for my Sabertooth saying that you can either have all SATA on RAID or none. This doesn't mean every drive has to be RAIDed, single drives will be showing up as JBOD, assuming it works similarly to my previous mobo.

Now, the manual for my Sabertooth is kinda crap, so I expect the manual for you CH4 may be as well; see if you can get an extended version of it from ASUSs website.

I'm now very much crossing my fingers for when I have to set up RAID on the Sabertooth smile.gif
