Modularity may very well be the future of mobile. The phone is the brains behind the tablet, laptop or even desktop accessory, making it highly convenient for users to just dock their phones to suit their specific needs at the time.

This is just one of the ways in which we will be permanently in the internet in the future, always connected. I invision a world that looks like this.

1.) Wake up and go through your morning routine. (Check Phone, get all of your updates in your bathroom such as breaking news and weather, get a shower, etc)
2.) Head to work in your car that now drives you using Google's new self driving tech. While in said car you take a conference call, check emails, get small business out of the way, etc.
3.) Get to work, switch your phone to your work profile and sync up with whatever platform you're required to work with. For instance if you work in an office, you sync with your desktop. If you are working in a mill like I will be, I would get all of the updates on all the processes I would have to look at during the day. If I see that a machine is not running efficiently I will get a notification as the whole operation loop will be connected to the in house network.
4.) Head back home, check up on the spouse, friends, and anything else that sparks your interest.
5.) Get home and set your profile to home mode and enjoy all of your media on any peripheral you want, just because your phone synced across all of them as soon as you walked through the front door.

We are pretty close to already being at that level, the only thing that is holding us back is that there are still a ton of devices/processes that arent able to speak to one another and/or pass information to one another. Thats changing drastically though and ideas such as the nexphone is the next step in that direction. We already have is set up so that we can look at devices in the mill from the operations room and tell what kind of efficiency they are running at, the next step is just to have that information given to all of your workers who require it. I even said to manually switch your profiles, if you are always connected your phone will switch profiles for you.

Definitely a cool concept and I think this is the next step in the evolution of computing.

I think this is a good idea but it will take a lot of work to make great apps to match the ones you can have in a laptop running windows.I know a lot of common people with little to no knowledge about computers and they already find it hard to learn how to use android, they are used to their WIN 7 laptop and end up using the smartphone as a regular phone with just whatsapp chat and facebook.I use Whatsapp a lot too but it's waste to use a smartphone just for that.

Most people will find it hard to use their ubuntu based phone as a regular laptop.I think that people will still buy laptops and tables instead of this kind of phones.

It also makes me feel sad that desktop pc's are dying little by little for the masses, you just can't compare a desktop pc with a tablet or smartphone desktop is much better.

This is a cute concept that I really like.

But I prefer an Asus Padfone variation which run Windows 8.

When this kind of phone exist, I will surely ditch my Android for that... thumb.gif
