PC Freeze!!

Thread Starter
SO i did some overclocking, nothing that made the temp to high for any reason. My comp now just completely freezes, even when im not overclocked! what do i do! Unless somehow a setting didnt go back to defaults. Ok i don't have to be playing anything for it to freeze! after like 5-10 min it just totally freezes, then i have to reset it. SOMEONE PLZ HELP, its the most frustrating thing to have a bran new comp and not even be able to use it.

Well explain what the pc settings were at before this started happening. Need a little more info.

BTW it could be GPU drivers clean them and re-install them to see if that helps.

I had a similar experience with a recent system just like this. The system would boot up for up to 10 minutes then jsut freeze. Didnt matter if I was running LInux, Windows, LiveCD, MS-DOS Floppy. Everything made it freeze. after deducing that either the PSU (Which had blown caps), or mobo (Which was hissing in an odd fashion) had failed, I replaced the PSU with out any luck. Replaced the mobo, and now the systems running great.

What you need to do is eliminate all possible causes of the lock ups. Try running a LiveCD to see if its just windows or your HD playing up. Remove disk drives to check incase thats causing. Do this with every component, (Remove and test) until you have more or less narrowed the problem down to 3 or 4 components. Then you can start finding alternative parts to test it with, from friends, or work, or even your local PC store.

I know it can be hard to accept when your hardware has failed. I spent about 3 weeks determined Id get my PC back up and running without spending alot, but eventually you gotta accept that these things happen.

EDIT: Before you do anything like that though, reset/clear your CMOS to see if that solves the problem!

well i just changed the ram to another 512 stick i had lying around and it hasnt frozen yet, so i think that was the problem. Does that mean my good memory is shot, or what do i have to do to make them working again.

If the ram change has stopped the problem stick the good stuff back in and run some memtest for at least 2 loops, make sure the ram is at stock speeds when you do this, and if you get any errors at stock speed and voltage then your ram needs to be RMA'ed.

Download this program and burn it on a disc as an image, put it in the cd drive and restart the PC, it will run automatically, let it run at least 2 loops, if it throws errors you need to replace the ram if it doesnt throw errors, then your problem lies somewhere else.
