Overclocking issues with the 3770K

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I would appreciate your help with an overclocking issue if possible.

I've been recently trying to overclock my 3770K rig (the 'Prototype Mark III' one in my sig) and I'm a little worried about how the overclock is going.

My current overclock is set at 4.5 ghz and 1.30V. The temperatures after about 15 minutes of Prime95 testing are reaching almost 90C. Trying to lower the voltage to 1.25V causes the computer to crash after about 20 minutes. I have yet to play with any of the other settings as of yet.

Furthermore, it surprises me how little of a difference my custom water cooling system is making. The temperatures on my GPUs is considerably less now than it was in the past (about 10-15C cooler at idle and 30C cooler at load), but the CPU temperature has barely been affected, if at all (39-40C at idle and up to 90C at 100% load).

Anyways, my issues boil down to two questions:

1. Why am I getting so much instability at 1.25V? Do I need to adjust some other overclock setting in order to get it more stable?

2. Is there something wrong with my cooling system? It's obvious that the watercooling itself is working since the GPUs are doing great, but the CPU certainly has room for improvement. It may be worth keeping in mind that I was only about 5C hotter with the Corsair H80 I was previously using.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If PLL is 1.8v (which is the value for most boards on auto), try decreasing it to 1.7v or 1.6v.
