Opinions on using D5 with top and a MCP35X in same loop

I have a kinda complicated loop. Started off as a simple single block/rad/pump setup. Now it is multiple times more complex. My current loop consists of:

D5 vario pump with Bitspower top>Aquacomputer flow sensor>Phoybia 200mm radiator>Aquacomputer Stainless steel mesh filter>dual 6970 Komodo full cover blocks in parallel>EX 360 radiator>120 radiator>Heatkiller 3.0 CU>Frozen_Q Liquid Fusion reservoir. With 3 sharp 90s, 2 triple rotoray 90s, 2 in line temp sensors and 1 plug temp sensor(in 200mm rads extra port) and Monsoon 1/2x3/4 fittings with Primochill LRT tubing(plasterizer ridden as hell).

I have been running this setup for about a week and getting good temps. But I finally got my mods done for my Aquaero LT and hooked up my flow meter, as well as multiple water/air temp sensors. I was expecting my flow to be low with all that I have now, but on setting 5 on my D5, I only get .5 gal/minute. I am thinking I am working my pump too hard(and loud), and want to supplement what I have. I dont want to get rid of my D5 altogether, because I finally got it positioned the way I want in my loop.

I know my temps wont get much better by adding another pump, so dont chew my arm about that. But what I want are opinions on running a D5 vario with manual control, with a MCP35X with PWM control via my Aquaero LT. In another thread, I heard it was Ok, but I want to get more in depth with it. I already have a great idea for a mounting place for it, which would be unique, functional, and "in line". Plus I like the idea of redundancy.

Side note: while we are here anyone have any opinions, or experience on these?? I need 3 90 degree sata power connectors to clean up my case and try to "finish" it.

Thanks guys and gals, really appreciate any input

Jump on over to Martin's Lab blog on WordPress. He has some very good and indepth pump testing with dis-similar pumps in a WCing loop. http://martinsliquidlab.org

A very good chance you will be very well educated about the pumps in series without needing to have Einstein explain it all. thumb.gif

Martin is good, very good!

Thanks for the link. Ive been there and read a lot of that before, but I looked more in depth at the pump section. He did say that the pumps could be used together, but didnt give any stats. Although I do assume any stats are dependent on too many variables.

Are there any mounting holes on the top of a MCP35x??

35x is a PWM pump, it will CONTROL the flow because it's purpose is to run a low duty cycle at idle or off load so if you have another pump running full blast, you may find yourself in a worse situation. Martins test is with two pumps running max speed, or one on one off, not one running 1500rpm and the other 4500rpm.

If I were you, I'd just sell the D5 setup and get a 35x2 and call it a day.

That is a good point. 200 bucks is a lot of money for a pump though, how much do you guys assume my pump with top would sell for here??

D5 and top is what like 130? If you could get 80 for it you would come out less than adding another D5 and dual top by a good margin. Think about the costs of adding another D5 and dual top, it ain't cheap.

Yeah and Im a sucker for PWM lol. Going to have to move my reservoir and check soemthings out before I order one. Would be nice to find one for sale here at OCN, but I doubt it.
