NV4 to i680

There is alot of poo being slung about the i680 and strange comparisons to Intel chipsets in the wrong class of mother boards.

My favorite: A nonSLI board, the P5B, being compared to the latest SLI board: i680.

Well, I'm putting my money where my mouth is. Take a look at my sig. I will be doing the following to it in the next week:

1) Overhaul the WC equipment. I'm pulling off the NB cooling block and the MOSFET cooling blocks for the GTX's. Also removing the res. and relying on a closed loop with a DD fill hose as the top off component.

2) Yanking my P5N32 SLI DEL. board and replacing it with the new EVGA i680 board.

3) Swapping my standard OCZ 667 Gold RAM for Corsair PC8500 SLI ready RAM.

After all is said and done, I will compare my old benchies (maxed out PCMark06 = ~8900) to new benchies using ONLY the auto-overclock feature of the i680 chipset. After that, I will manually overclock the rig and re-benchmark to see what the hoopla is all about.

This is my first attempt at an organized build log. So, please be patient. If you have any specific suggestions as to how and, in what order, to paste snapshots, etc.... please feel free to chime in.

Not waiting for the ASUS board?

No matter what is said, for nVidia this is quite a jump. I mean, nForce4 was not a good overclocker, and every benchmark shows that the 680i IS a good overclocker.

And I am sure nVidia will have a non-SLI version (like the Ultra-D)

THEN we'll talk again about the P965 Express

Plus, I can't wait for ATI RD600

Yeah, I can't wait and I'm also in serious need of a complete watercooling overhaul. So, no time like the present to swap motherboards. Then WOO HOO faster RAM bus!
