Okay. I've noticed some stuttering in certain games. I had assumed this was related to my HIS ICE Q Radeon HD 6950 and just replaced it with an Gigabyte GTX 670. This did not solve the problem.
My natural inkling is that since this is not a global problem, but just related to certain games (for instance Guild Wars 2, but not in Battlefield 3), this might be a CPU problem.
Then I opened up CPU-Z and noticed that roughly on the same rhythm as the stutter in frames, my graphics core speed is dropping from its roughly 3.2ghz clock to 800mhz.
Is this normal or am I correct in thinking that this is not a good thing. If so, is there anything I can do to fix this? The CPU itself is now over a year old, so I'm not sure AMD will RMA it and I don't really want to buy a new one after plunking down $400 for the GTX 670.
I can post CPU-Z screenies (or anything else) if you need, but it's hard to display the changing nature of this.
