Recommend Me a Low Power Budget Build

Thread Starter
Hello people!

I want to make a new build for my wife. The main thing she will do doing on it are graphic design (Adobe creative suite) and Guild wars 2 (The more important part). biggrin.gif

And here are the criteria:

- 500-600$ (We've got Euro here, so I'll calculate it later.)

- It should be power saving, monster GPU's, Low power CPU's and green PSU's.
- Preferred to be Matx or another small factor - not much space in our room.
- It must be quiet - we both hate noisy fans.
- It should have some solid RAM (for photoshop)
- This isn't a must, but stick to a stealthy scheme if possible. (white/grey/black)

From what I've researched myself, I was thinking an APU would do nicely with some of that fusion GPU thing going on. And as for a case, the Fractal ARC MINI seems very nice. But let me hear your opinion!

Any help would be appreciated!

^ ^ NEVER go in for those barebone bundle deals since most of the components are mismatched. 3+1 phase failure-prone B-grade MSI board + a quad core = boom biggrin.gif

@OP, I think you'd be more at home with an APU build based on your requirements:

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106001

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455

Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157273

PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371035

GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127586

TOTAL - 415$

The above GPU can hybrid crossfire with the built in 6550 on the APU. Should give you decent gaming performance.

Else you could go in for this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102967

This brings the total to 460$

Nice set, thanks for the list!

One thing though, what do you think about a case? matx or itx? Same counts for the mobo obviously. smile.gif

If you really have space constraints, go for this case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352009

If you don't plan on crazy overclocking and extreme tweaking, that ITX board in the list should do just fine.

Nice. Fractal.. At last an opportunity to be a bit patriotic and support a home based company. wink.gif

I have a question, not totally related, but still. What GPU's are able to go in hybrid with the APU?

Alright. I'm just reading through the Fusion thing of AMD, and it seems that "piledriver" will come out soon? Is this a similar things like the Llano and possibly worth waiting for?

Definitely. Stronger integrated graphics (Trinity APUs - based on Pildedriver cores) and better core-for-core performance.

Trinity APUs have already started retailing in some OEM machines. Desktop equivalents to come soon and it'll be based on socket FM2.

You can also go for the non-APU Piledriver chips based on the AM3+ socket such as the FX 43XX.
