Need help determining what specs are important when searching for a HDTV...

Thread Starter
I have an interview tomorrow at Best Buy and want to be equipped with some foreknowledge so I can at least know and understand something about what HDTV specs would make one better than another.

I myself tend to always check Samsung products and see what they are offering and manufacturing.

I have obvious knowledge such as 1080p being the best or 720p. I noticed that refresh rates on some lcd's are, well for the newer ones, coming in at around 240hz and that 120hz is a minimum for 3D. 2d upscaling to 3d seems to be up and coming.

Any other specs and info that is highly helpful that most people overlook?

Thanks.

Research the following:

  • Built-in scaling
  • Built-in "Smart" features
  • Smart-phone apps (Samsung is doing really great here)
  • Connectivity options (ethernet, HDMI, Wi-Fi, WiDi, etc.)
  • Number of connections by type
  • Heat output
  • Plasma vs LCD (a lot of customers will ask this)
  • Refresh rates
  • 3D compatibility and cost of glasses
  • Wall-mount Friendly (hidden side inputs, 90 degree inputs, mounting options)

For people with bottomless pockets, nothing on the market right now can come remotely close to the incoming new O-LED TVs.
