[Anand] Intel's Next Unit of Computing: 4"x4", Core i3, Systems Targeted at $399 - Page 5

Which DuckieHo was explaining that similar board costs around ~200 dollars if you add that that it could have a similar graphics and CPU performance to a standard mATX computer with similar specs than it could be a good improvement on space for businesses.

Back at IDF Intel gave us a hands on demo of its Next Unit of Computing (NUC), a custom form factor motherboard that fits into an Intel-supplied 4" x 4" x 2" chassis. The first-generation NUC is built around a dual-core ULV Ivy Bridge CPU, the Core i3 3217U (17W TDP, 1.8GHz frequency, no turbo, HD 4000 graphics running at 350MHz - 1.05GHz).

I want it to play with but can't justify to myself the price for the size....

What I find most interesting that you can "daisy chain" them. Can't wait till someone does that!!! nerdsmiley.png

Huh? It has only standard I/O ports of USB and Ethernet/Thunderbolt. There's nothing special that allows you to daisy chain them. You can always create clusters with any I/O port as long as you have messaging/control software.

took this the wrong way

The DC3217BY model features Intel's Thunderbolt technology Thunderbolt is described by Intel as a dual protocol I/O innovation that increases transfer performance with bidirectional 10Gbps speed and offers daisy chaining to multiple devices. According to Intel, leveraging the I/O protocols on a single transport enables engineers to innovate new system design configurations.

I am sad now, I shouldn't try to recall tech article from the middle of the night wheee.gif

Damn...if only they came with, you know...the power adapters. At 320 before the cost of RAM, mSATA SSD, and the power adapter this thing seems a bit out of point.

I see this. It's more of a starting point for a wicked small form factor than much else.
I know new tech is always more expensive but it is just not close to the price point needed to push these out. For example, a H77 mITX mobo + i3-3225 is around $185 at microcenter. Add a Silverstone Sugo 05 for $125 for the 430w version and you got a powerful little system with ability to add a dual slot VGA card for $310. I know this form factor is much smaller but it is just asking for too much $$.
