Why crossfire X1600s?

Get one X1800GTO or X1950Pro.

Edited.

Got a budget of $300 for Mobo/CPU/GPU.

So I will only have about 130$ for a GPU.

and that A8R-MVP is an Overclockers dream!

You stuck on going Crossfire? What about S939?

I'd get a Gigabyte S3, a Pentium D 805, and look around for a second hand 7600GT.

Or swap the mobo with a TForce 6100, About $20 cheaper, and buy a X1800GTO for $159 + MIR ($139.99 at the 'egg IIRC).

Or just buy a second hand one.

And their was X1800XL on Ebay for 150$, and when I got the cash, it was gone.

For the Intel stuff, he'll need DDR2... don't think he has that

Within budget, the X1650PRO or X1600XT are the best choices.

Best pick would be that X1800GTO:

All depends in what games you play. When AA and high res' come in it usually wins.

Keep in mind you can do HDR and AA at the same time as well.

Plus, with an hour or tops you can get that card running at 1.45v/2.25v and OC it like mad all through the BIOS.

BIOS mod or V-Mod?

I think you have to have an X1800XT or better to get ATI-Tool to allow the voltage change.

I believe you're correct... you'll be needing the high-end cards for voltage changes through the BIOS.

If the GTO is too slow, the 16xx will be even worse

Why not just a 7600GT then?

A8R MVP ain't that hot an overclocker either... the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D for example is better (although a bit more money)
