Nvidia Reality Tour '06 Review and Pictures (Dallas)

Anyhow, went to the Nvidia Reality Tour today, and I had alot of fun. I have included alot of pics so that you can see what was up. Basically it was a circular Kiosk with two computers, and one laptop, all running games / demos on dell's 30'. The two computers were equipped with custom CM cases, the new 8800 GTX, the new 680i SLI board, 2 gigs of Corsair XMS DDR2, and an X6800 proc. The sound was onboard, and was pumped through Logitech Z-2300 (i think).

The Demos were BF2142, and technical demos. Playing 2142 on a 30 inch screen is amazing. Unfortunatly having the screen so close to your face, you had to arch your back to see the whole screen. The 8800 GTX kept constant frame rates of 60+ through most parts of the game (this is evident being that they did not have v-synch enabled), the only time I *think* I might have seen framerates drop below 60 was during an arti strick right on top of my head, but even then the frame rate was easily 40+. This to me is amazing, as on my rig, running at 1240/960, arti strikes reduce my frames to ~20.

The technical demos were alot of fun. They had a smoke in a box one, where you could move the mouse inside a virtual box, and the smoke inside the box would move in relation to where the mouse was, you could push the smoke around and it would disperse as real smoke should. You could effect the smoke, I cant wait to see this implemented in games, its amazing, imagine a game like COD2 where the smoke actually envelopes your character, where your weapon movement as you walk realistically effects the smoke around you. Great Stuff.

The next demo was the new Nvidia babe on a catwalk. This demo was used to show off how detailed the textures can be. Im sure everyone has seen pics, however, in the demo you can rotate, zoom in, zoom out, and change her to a wire model in real time. Changing her to a wire model is amazing, in that it allows you to see the EVERY strand of hair is being individually rendered.

The last demo I snapped a pic of that can be seen below, basically it has a frog sitting on a log, and gives you the option to do a multitude of things to the frog and the environment. You can slap the frog (this was too much fun!) you can grab him and stretch him (like from the beginning of super mario 64... anyone remember that) and you could also tap the water, creating realistic ripples, and pull your mouse through the water, creating realistic trails through the water. Truely amazing stuff, as it was ALL rendered by the GPU (ie, the water physics).

There was fun for all, 4 chances to win a shiny new 8800 GTS, and a laptop set up playing Star Wars Lego for the kids. The people were knowledgable, and the only think that irked me was how they were saying the 680i board was the "Best" overclocker out there. All of the people running the event were from Nvidia, not Comp USA. Over all, I had a great time. Hopefully you all will enjoy these pics!

PS: They gave out free t-shirts, mouse pads, and case badges! Woot!
PSS: Went back later that night and won me one of the PC's in the pictures... yummy!

Its still going on, im heading back there in 30 minutes for the 7:00 drawing, and to take more pics of the tech demos for OCN. The batteries in my camera died so I had to come home and get new ones.

The frame rate was steady at 60+ on this demo I believe. It is hard to say, as they weren't running FRAPS obviously, but I did not see anything to to make me believe the FPS was lower then 60.
