What really sold guildwars to me was the insane attention to detail. When you stand on a hillside your toons knees bend and the feet stay on the terrain, when you stand with one foot on a box the foot stays on the box while the other foot touches the ground. The character detail and armor detail is also awesome.
I love the jump puzzles some of them are insanely challenging even with my warriors ability to cheat with charge.
In a game that has waypoints I expected to get stuck in terrain often, why bother making sure the terrain is completely playable when you can just port out? I haven't had to use a waypoint to get unstuck once, I have a 70 toon and I have TRIED to get stuck yet I can always platform my way out.
Gathering, inventory, banking, crafting and auction house in this game are a model that EVERY MMO should follow, it is PERFECT.
The overflow servers are a wonderful innovation, not only does it keep the servers from crashing it keeps you from loading into a zone that has been overwhelmed with all of its events pushed into ultimate success.
Arena net is SERIOUS about boters and exploiters, I found a boter when I was farming, he was standing where he couldn't be attacked and shooting down into an event area even shooting when nothing was there. I reported the bot and continued my farming, I was watching him for 20 minutes before I reported him 5 minutes after my report he was gone, I added him to my Flist as I do in most mmo's when I report a boter. He hasn't been back online in 10 days compare this to wow where I report boters add them to Flist and watch as they level all the way to cap never getting banned. Its nice to see a company that gets how destructive they can be to a game.
A few week points for me in this game.
abilities being tied to the weapons, this is cool for realism but not so cool for customization, if I want to dual-wield swords and Whirlwind I should be able to I shouldn't have to put an axe in my offhand to make it happen.
Tied down to one server, some of my friends went to different servers to play with some other friends, and convincing everyone to move to one server was impossible.
Some open world content is flat out not soloable, and not just the event and zone bosses.
I discovered a spot where I am de-leveld to 65 and pitted against level 70 mobs, the first time I ran into it I didn't notice and got wrecked, its really frustrating to get wrecked by a mob because the game de-leveled you.
Overall its a great game and 2 million sales is just the beginning.
