Best 27" Monitor for 1440P?

Thread Starter
I have been contemplating for a few months now on pulling the trigger on a new monitor but I don't want just any 27" monitor I need 1440P. The thing that really made up my mind is when I built my mother custom laptop, seeing that 17" 1080P screen just amazed me my oh my how good that pixel density looked and I figure a 27"@1440P would look similar but better. wubsmiley.gif

Anyways I have been looking around for awhile and the best options I've seen are the infamous "Yamakasi Catleap" and the "Matrix Neo", however I have heard several people having problems with their durability and having them fail inside of a year or even 2 months in the worst case. I need something that will last but it can't break the bank. If I have to go with either the Catleap or Neo I need to know where I can get one with a decent warranty if it's even possible.

Budget: $500~$600

Pixel density is nice but with that budget a Korean monitor is your only option.

I'm really wary of the korean monitors because of their durability, I don;t want to end up with a dead monitor and and expensive shipping cost to get it replaced assuming I get a decent warranty. This being said I could go with a higher budget but it will take some time to get the extra cash. redface.gif

I was looking for the Nixeus and I can't seem to find any anywhere, I looked through their "Where to buy section" and none of those sources had them in stock. I looked on ebay and the only one I found was $500, so I'm assuming this is close to retail? I am seriously looking into those Catleaps however as they seem to be more available.

I too am in a very similar situation as you are with regards to looking for a monitor. I'm also very wary of the cheapo monitors. no guarantee that the eBay sellers will even be there in a years time for a warranty return if the panel does go out on you..

The best bang for the buck (with a decent warrenty) is likely going to be something like the HP zr2740w.
Two reviews:
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr2740w.htm
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5636/hp-zr2740w-high-resolution-ips-that-doesnt-break-the-bank

There are other choices that cost more such as the Dell U2711 and U2713. The latter of the two dell reviews I just linked does a good job of comparing the two models.

Here's a link to my thread, it may or may not help since my budget is a bit higher (though I'd rather keep it closer to your budget):

I'd rather buy a Crossover 27q for $340 plus a $40 square trade. That's $380 for a fully covered 1440p monitor. No need to worry about shipping to another country.

How long does that cover the monitor for? Would I need to worry about shipping anything at all? do they just ship me a replacement or reimburse me for the cost and I buy a new one if the old one fails??
