[Work Log] Project: Arete (ACU Camo & Military Themed)

After the most significant upgrades, I turned to the aesthetics. However, while looking at the case, especially the inside, I wasn't even close to satisfied, so I turned to you guys at OCN to help me decide on the rest of the rig's looks. I started this build log to document the remainder of my upgrades and mods. As you can tell, it's pretty informal compared to most build logs around here. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the results redface.gif

If you are interested in pre-build log, the original thread started here. Reading the introduction to this and looking at the pictures will get you better informed on what exactly I'm doing: http://www.overclock.net/t/1304525/somethings-not-complete-what-is-it

**After much debating and progress on this build, I've come up with a name. Please welcome:

Definition from Wikipedia:"Arete ( /ˈærətiː/; Ancient Greek: ἀρετή), in its basic sense, means excellence of any kind.[1] In its earliest appearance in Greek, this notion of excellence was ultimately bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: the act of living up to one's full potential."

Definition of a soldier, from US Army: "The U.S. Army, a key component of the U.S. Armed Forces, is made up of the best-trained, most dedicated, most respected Soldiers in the world...A Soldier in the U.S. Army is the embodiment of physical strength, emotional strength and strength of purpose."

How think for a while. Doesn't that sound similar?

If you didn't read, Arete is a Greek word, originating around the time of Socrates and Plato, is relatively undefined in English. In essence, it's a word to mean excellence, striving to meet potential, as well as moral excellence. The men and women that serve not only for the United States, for for militaries around the world display the bravery and leadership it takes to embody such a word. Through rigorous training, they strive to protect their country bu pushing themselves to the limits; to be the best they can be. Such values echo through my own household, as my mother served in the Army during Desert Storm. Because of the similarities, I chose to name my military themed build Arete, not because it looks and sounds cool, but because it stands for something more than just being the best at something. In a a sense, I'm striving to meet my full potential with this build; I;m not just putting my wallet to the grind, I'm using all my skills to make a beautiful machine that I can be proud to look at, one that I can look at and know I built it to the best of my abilities.

I'd like to extend an early thanks to everyone that's helped me work things out with this build, and well as any subscribers and +rep'ers. You guy's support is really valued by me, I hope you enjoy watching as much as I do. Try to bear with me, as a hectic school, sports, and work schedule currently limits me to weekend modding. I'll try to make the wait worth it for you all. thumb.gif

Where it all began (starting pictures):

Let's get to modding, shall we? thumb.gif

I'm flattered you'd even consider me for such a big competition! Can I nominate myself?

Hopefully I can complete this by the end of September. If not, get ready for some October competition wink.gif

Yes, you can nominate yourself. I have done it myself thumb.gif

My issue is I don't know if I can have it done by the end of September, so I think I should wait until it's close to finished until nominating myself. October here I come.

Alright here's an update for you guys. Sorry the thread has kind of gone dormant, I've had some serious personal issues get in the way of my projects.

The fans are here! =) I bought these used for slightly cheaper than retail. There will be more, but the guy I purchased them from only had 7, so I'll most likely have to purchase the other three full price new. Sorry for the load of pictures, my dad got a Nikon Professional wheee.gif

Sorry about all the blurry images. I was playing around with lenses and I tried to do the "Macro-Mode" stuff for close ups. I was a little too macro, some of these turned out...bad thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

No word on the sleeving. It's shipped, but I don't really know the shipping time of something from Germany. Hopefully it'll be here by the end of the week. If not, definately next week.

That's what I thought! Noctua's get a lot of heat for being a brownish color that nobody can use, but to be honest, they're some of the best fan's I've ever held. I mean I've used Noiseblockers, Silverstones, etc, and these blew me away. They also fit the color scheme.

I've never used them but they definitely go with the color scheme. I love when hardware comes matching...

Another update! Tubing has arrived. I'm really liking the Norprene material. It's sad it doesn't fit many builds..

This weekend I'll be taking the rig apart and re-assembling it on my desk so I can still use the PC. It's been a week since I ordered from MDPC, so I'm praying the sleeving comes tomorrow.
