I just watch my friends. You could bind the few keys you need to the mouse.
If you got a joystick that might work nicely, or something like the logitech or razer game pads. Plenty of buttons and a joystick in one hand.
Unfortunately I do not think he would be able to play very well
. You kind of need to be able to move your fingers on your non-mouse hand to cast spells, and as a person with hand cast experience this summer I know it is damn near impossible haha.
When I was casted (I broke my hand, not as bad as your injury. Hope you get better soon!) any FPS was off limits for obvious reasons. Depending on your interests, games with turn based elements always worked very well for me. Civ5 and KOTAR were both very nice to play and I put some time into both of those games in the 3 months I had my cast. However, gaming with a cast is just hard in general. I tried to do other things besides be on the computer, but hopefully you can manage better than I did
