i swear the human race needs to be kulled, big time. what do you do when your computer starts to choke up or slow down? you clear some unwanted space, clear your cache, reboot and start again thumb.gif

No no no, we need a critical mass of humanity to get off this rock and expand further (I want "space pirate" to be a legitimate term as soon as possible).

I love how people accredit video games (which have existed for, what, a few decades?) to violence in human behavior. It's not like we haven't been horribly mutilating each other for pretty much the whole of human history.

nah, like all GTA's from GTA 3 up to GTA4, it is censored. basically prostitution animations were removed or completely gone, cant remember. and something else was removed, again i forget. nothing game breaking but still pathetic. GTA 3, Vice City and i think San Andreas werent even available to us on Steam for a LONG time after they were released there, more than likely due to this very reason.

i actually bought San Andreas here but i was lucky, coz a couple days later it was pulled from the shelves, then re-released with the censored content.

There is a scene, where your girlfriend asks, "Do you want some coffee" and all it shows it the outside of the house and moaning.

That was put in, they took out the animated sex scene.

GTA4, you can see the actions of prostitutes but no organs or anything.

I wish that's what age ratings meant frown.gif

Take BF3, for example. Not a game for children in the slightest, yet many servers stop swearing in their chat because they have younger members playing. It's like, dude, there's a guy over the in-game radio saying "we're getting effed up" and I can't say the same thing in the chat because children that shouldn't even have the game might be playing?

I'm a big believer in enforcing age restrictions with criminal punishment. It's like, age restrictions are generally accepted by society with alcohol, sex and porn, but when it comes to videogames you're a contemptible person for wanting it enforced. You wouldn't give a bottle of vodka and a copy of the latest Jenna Jameson movie to a 14 year old, so why give them the latest gory game? Furthermore, I'm 25, what if I want to play these games with my peers instead of people more than 10 years my junior?

this also leaves the door wide open for them to allow yet censor games. or give the dev an option - censor the game or we wont allow it. which is currently how its playing out anyway. sure they've broadened the acceptable rating, but its not a full allowance. and personally, im expecting there to still be huge debate since what a dev defines as R18+, seemingly in agreeance with the majority of the world, and what we define as R18+ is going to differ. its still going to have some kind of affect on what games we can play, or what we can see.
to say that a video game has more realistic, influential violence versus a movie or even the news, those people are idiots.
theres a bigger picture here, a much bigger issue. video games, as always, are the government's scapegoat.

Too true...I really feel for the ausies out there.

I've said this before and I will offer it again. If any Australian ever wants a physical copy of a game that is banned there, let me know and I will buy it for you for the cost of the game and shipping...my time will be free. I will label contents as My Little Pony Season 1 DVD on the customs slip.

This is really ridiculous that they are even spending all this time on the subject.

QFT my man. and there you have it, the bigger underlying issue here. parenting. and effective content control.

It takes a long time for people to accept that the garbage they have been taught to fear for countless generations really cannot hurt them at all. Even overwhelming evidence to the contrary can't free many from their ingrained taboos.

I hold age restrictions in general in contempt. Society is largely comprised of fools...the last people who should be allowed to decide what others can or cannot do.

Firstly, they are useless and unenforceable. Secondly, they are almost all completely arbitrary and baseless. Thirdly, they are one size fits all, and cannot account for individual differences, which are givens. Lastly, it's none of the state's damned business.

I will never participate in the creation or enforcement of any such restrictions, and will usually be willing to assist others in bypassing them.

Only because my tastes in porn and drink are better than this.

Wisdom and maturity are built through experience. Sheltering experiences from those society has, completely arbitrarily, in it's infinite lack of wisdom, deemed unable to handle them does nothing but delay the acquisition of experience and prolong immaturity, or worse, force it to be acquired in even more dangerous ways.

Personally, I had my first shot of vodka when I was 12, and was jerking off to porn well before that. I've never had an alcohol problem (indeed I rarely drink at all), was never possessed with unrealistic expectations regarding sex or sexuality, and have generally engaged in far less risky behavior than many more repressed individuals are inclined to.

Society, it's expectations, and it's restrictions are vastly more harmful than what it seeks to control and suppress.

I'm 29 and I realize that age does not make someone my peer.

If you want to play games with whatever set of arbitrary limitations you care to, host it yourself.
