[Build Log] $1000 Gaming Rig - MMII - Page 2

for an Intel 2500k, a custom loop would be overkill in my opinion. Unless you also plan on water cooling your Gpu, ram and ish like that, which is also overkill, but looks damm sexy! biggrin.gif.

I don't plan on staying with this cheap-ass great case for a long time biggrin.gif, but i prefer performance to looks when setting up a pc, so saving on the case was a big help and that's why i got it. For my first personal build, it is really not bad at all. I will upgrade to something much better when i go sli on my gtx 670's.

The only reason i will still go with the 660ti over it's AMD counterparts is because i love to play games in 3D, and AMD "as i heard from a little bird called Linus" is not really good with 3D, and also with Nvidia, i get physx support and overall great drivers. I am not a fanboy trust me, Nvidia just seems to fit my preference when it comes to gaming on pc's for now. If they mess up in future, i am AMD all the way!!! haha or whichever company that they may be called in future. thumb.gif

Yeah I hear that, I also stream a lot which eats the CPU, so I will be overclocking the CPU and CPU like crazy. And yes for my loop I will be cooling the CPU and gpu, and only reason ill watercool in the spring is because my room is tiny and i can't have my pc be a heater when it starts to get warmer out smile.gif

OMG, the thought of how your pc is going to look like when you are finally done is giving me a nerdgasm haha.... It's gonna be sick! biggrin.gif. I have my intel core i5 2500k clocked at 4.7ghz @ 1.364v biggrin.gif, and here is my 3d mark 11 score. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/4370117.

My evga Reference gtx 670 sucks balls haha, it is the worst overclocker i have ever come across!. I am thinking of selling it and going with the FTW version, but i just don't have time to deal with people on craiglist redface.gif... Keep us updated with photos and benchmarks when you are done! i would love to see thumb.gif

its a nice build drazah, its nice to hear when people manage to get money together and build a pc they really want.

As for your build, its pretty good yeah. Personally I would have gone with a better cpu cooler, not because the 212 is bad, but because I feel it is only capable up to 4.5ghz. I like to overclock more than that and the 2500k is capable of anything up to 5ghz depending on how good your cpu is.

I would also switch out the ram for some samsung 30nm DDR3 1600 CL11 kits, these overclock like a beast and do 2133mhz at CL11 timings, only cost me like £40.

Yeah I agree with others who say they would buy difference PSU, I would buy a seasonic X650 personally but thats only cause ive got experience with that power supply and its really reliable.

All in all though I think you'll be pleased with what you've bought, dont forget to check out my 2500k overclocking thread in my signature when you wanna start overclocking thumb.gif

Thanks for the reply! The 212 Evo cooler is only temp right now. I will be switching to a complete water cool loop soon and thats the only reason why i chose that cooler.

As far as ram, im not sure im following you on that, When i overclock the CPU, do i not just adjust the mhz to run lower but at a low CAS aswell, in theory making it faster ram? And even then, would anyone even notice the difference? Personally, From my experience I dont notice any difference from 1600 and 2133mhz as i used to have it as well. But as for lower CAS rating, that is something that could be noticed.

**EDIT** And also, I already over clocked to 4.6GHZ with the 212 Evo smile.gif

Oh Nice! really nice. haha, i remember when i built mine too, i was like guitar.gif.....biggrin.gif

What voltage are you running your i5 2500k on at 4.6ghz?.... mine has been on prime 95 for "Only God knows" how many hours at 4.8 ghz @ 1.368v. I am trying to push to 5.0ghz, but i don't want to go way over 1.4v on the chip, as i will most likely be running 4.8 ghz 24/7... You think this is a good overclock for now? since it's stable?

The max temp a core reached was 73c but now everything is at the high 60's on the h100, but my room is freaking hot here in texas. Ambient room temp is at 84F. "just turned on the AC now smile.gif"

I see absolutely no problem with any of the parts in your build (could have got a better PSU but even the corsair CX series is prob's very reliable). 7950 will do great overclocked under water when you get around to it. What colour phantom did you get? Great looking cases I think with lots of room for expansion smile.gif

I got the black/green phantom. And after looking at your avatar I would really life to sleeve my whole pc. But as for temps, having my room not be a hotbox is a big deal to me. Only reason I didn't go watercool now is because I kinda need a heater in my room since its starting to get cold in NJ Haha. So I'm still working out what I want my 2500K to run 24/7 at. Right now, I'm thinking 4.4 to 4.6ghz but ill see what i can do as far as temps.
