[Build Log] $1000 Gaming Rig - MMII - Page 3

post #21 of 58
Wow i didn't even know that NZXT made a black/green phantom, that is awesome biggrin.gif Sleeving a whole PC is a lot of work.. i have only sleeved my pump, fans and over the top of some Bitfenix extensions for my 24pin and PCI-E cables for my rig and that took a few hours. But it does look amazing if you are willing to put in the effort to do a whole PSU, i'm just a bit lazy i guess haha.

Nice guide $ilent, had a quick look and i will definitely come back to it when i get the time to properly overclock my 2500K. Even though i don't have an asus mobo it should be handy info.

*UPDATE*

So everything is still working smooth! Windows loads in about 8 seconds lol never seen anything this fast, was so used to regular hard drives.

OVERCLOCKS****

2500K = 4.2GHz

7950 = 1100/1350 @ 1.2v

Ran the MSI Kombuster Xbench (1920x1080) and my average FPS was 48.

Installed GW2 and WoW, running both on ultra settings at about 80+ FPS it looks like, i have yet to see it drop under 60!

Overall, I am EXTREMELY happy with this build. Gave me everything i was looking for!

Most likely gonna be keeping it at 4.2GHz for the time being.

**EDIT**

Currently have my 7950 overclocked to 1130/1400 @ 1.237v

Nicely done, I think id like to venture into a hd 7950 at some point they seem to overclock like a beast. Either that or wait for gtx 685.

Yeah look into it, So far so good. And i actually just did some more stress testing and im currently running my 2500K @ 4.5GHz with 1.3v

Stress test passed, and have been stable for a while now. Was also playing GW2 some, runs flawless and always 70+ FPS no matter where i go.

Yes it is VERY nice. At first i was skeptical of going from my crossfire 6870s to a single 7950, but with the overall mobo, cpu, and gpu upgrade, it was WELL worth it.

So today is a bad day, but i think a blessing in disguise. My psu just died, most likely from my overclocking but who knows. It didnth short anything out, it just stopped working. I had the pc on sleep mode and then it never came back on, so it wasn't like it was on. Tried the paper clip jump test and it just nudged the fans for a second then off. I tried a new psu in the pc and it worked great.

So i got the full RMA And shipping it out tomorrow and will be buying a higher watt psu to future proof my pc smile.gif

Good call! I love my Antec High Current Gamer Series 900W, it cost me $130.

Others may have other opinions, but ive always heard great things about Antec PSUs so i decided to go with it and i love it.

Otherwise, the brands i would recommend are: Seasonic, Antec, and Corsair. Id stay far away from OCZ PSUs
