Worth it to install Win XP in 2012?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I have a less-than-legit copy of Win7 Ultimate installed on my computer. Now that I have a good-paying job, I want to get away from any piracy and pay for my programs and media. I have an old WinXP Media Center Edition serial from my ancient laptop. I know EOL for WinXP is in April 2014, but I'm loathe to purchase a Win7 license when I have a free XP just sitting around. I want to get a very slimmed down system that is very light on resources.

Would it still be worth it to install WinXP? Would it be better to purchase Win7 and tweak and optimize from there? Which OS will slim down the most? How significant are the real-life benefits of tweaks/optimizaiton?

Advices please, and thank you.

As everything is getting away with windows xp, it will good to do the same...
Suggest that you just buy upgrade only which is much cheaper.
Good luck

We are starting to get to the point where some programs are not thoroughly tested on XP. I don't think I'd recommend buying it today.

Windows 8 is out next month I think... tends to be a pain to adopt the new versions of windows right away though.
