16GB helps me A LOT. I tend to force most of it into Minecraft. tongue.gif MOAR TEXTURE PACKS.

Unless someone uses VMs or does CAD work, theres little point in having more than 8GB RAM.
16Gb is good if you are using it as a ram disk or for running a virtual machine.. Other than that...no.

The only time I've seen 16gigs of ram show it's muscle was when it was used to show case BF3 online while streaming live at the same time. That was the only time I've seen 16gigs offer anything beneficial without it being for a particular application (ie: video/photo editing, etc). I forgot how much was being used at the time but I think it was over 10 gigs or so).

Edit:
Come to think of it, he had well over 90 processes running.

Photo stacking eats ram in Photoshop. Only thing I've seen use over 7gigs on a single stack of 10 plus images

i had to install 8gb of ram for customer who only played wow, turns out having the extra free space available in the ram gives it a performance boost because of the way the software/ram allocates ram/it's self... or something to that effect.

The difference between 8GB and 16GB in games is minimal (like, under 5%)

But I mean c'mon, who wants to leave it at 8GB, might as well just get 16GB, Cause you can thumb.gif

Windows is pretty smart when it comes to caching files and such, so it will use more RAM when it is there, particularly for games where the game cache can be large (WoW, Skyrim, etc.).

I'm folding and browsing the internet and I'm using 6GB, with RAM being so cheap I don't see any reason to not get 16GB.
