S3 by far.

You yourself said you were disappointed by the ip5. Why get it then. The S3 is simply better. It's got a bigger and better screen, arguably a better camera, way more RAM, supports micro SD cards, and is insanely customizable. I've used a friends S3, and in NO WAY is it of poor build quality. They're built extremely well.

After a month with the Lumia, I sold that off to get an S3. Honestly, I'm really happy with the S3 over the competition because it does everything those phones do and more.
I have a case on mine, so I don't really feel like the build quality of the phone is any worse than other phones I've had. Even without a case, it's really not a cheap phone. The only thing cheap about it would be the backplate, which is pretty flimsy. But with a case on the phone I never really notice.
Reception is great, battery life lasts me more than I need each day, screen is large (phone is large too, but I have bigger hands, so doesn't matter to me), speaker is good (except when the phone is flat, face up), gestures work excellent (smart stay is actually pretty smart) and the camera is impressive.
I haven't even rooted my phone and I still love it, there's just so much more you can do with an Android phone than you can with an iPhone. When I had an iPhone I never really realized what kind of customizability I was missing out on, but now it's pretty clear to me.
But the absolute best part? I never have to use iTunes again.

You could have jailbroken it.

Get the S3. Why? Because it wasn't made by Apple.

I'd have to disagree with the build quality. Just like with my current GSII, they're just too light.

The iPhone 4/4S feel awesome in comparison, simply because of how heavy they are. This is just my personal preference, however I absolutely hate how light my phone is.

Now you may be thinking that this has nothing much to do with build quality, and I would agree. However when the Op mentioned build quality, he was alluding to the weight of the device, and I would agree that this is on the downfalls of the Galaxy S line up. I admit it's not a major factor in deciding what phone to buy, but my personal preference would be that it is as heavy as an iPhone. tongue.gif

EDIT:

I also want to throw this out there.

If you really must upgrade from your iPhone 4, it really doesn't matter what you choose. The iPhone 5 and the GSIII are both excellent phones irrespective of most people's opinions on here.

Its funny how people say the iphone feels more sturdy, but as soon as you drop it once.....
I have an HTC One V and a LG Optimus One that I've thrown at walls, stepped on, thrown across lawns, etc. etc. and they are just fine.

I'll repeat this one more time to the people who think the iPhone has too little RAM to run. It's got ENOUGH for iOS and EVERYTHING else to run. It doesn't run an open source OS like android, it runs iOS which is optimized by Apple.

The SIII's screen is just way too big for my liking, the iPhone 5 screen suits my preference because I like to be able to use my phone with one hand and not two.

Micro SD cards, well you can get a 32/64gb one and I think that's more than enough.

The SIII's does feel alot plasticky when I hold it compared to any iPhone I ever used. I don't know why but I think all Samsung phones have hideous backs tongue.gif

^my opinions, other opinions may differ. smile.gif

In the end, if you go android go SIII. If you want to stay with iOS go with the 5.

EDIT- your phone cracking after dropping just depends on luck. My 4S has fallen on the road, floor etc a number of times and hasn't gotten a scratch. Though my friends Samsung Omnia W and iphone 4 fell and shattered instantly.

Agreed on keep your 4S, there's really no big need to upgrade from that.

Well truly shows the subjectivity of it then b/c I love how light my GS2 is tongue.gif
If I use my case (don't all the time) it's not like having a 10lb brick in my pocket, unlike most 4/4Ss are with one.

Of course, there's absolutely no flex in the frame to absorb the shock...the shock has to go somewhere.

However unlike the SIII, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to replace an iPhone screen in the event that it does break. This is based off previous pricing of the SII/4/4S/3/3GS screen replacement pricing.

I accidentally dropped my watch on my GSII four months ago when I got out of bed, they want £130 to replace the screen! You can do replace the screen on a 4 for half the price of that.
