I've ran my sig rig just fine with SLI GTX580's with my Antec TPN650. 580's draw a good 50-75w more PER CARD than 7970's do (possibly more after overclocking). And I never once had an issue. And I was watching my 12v rails as well with a multimeter. Never once did I drop below 12.10v under a full system load.
630-650w is honestly the absolute perfect "sweet spot" for future proofing a rig. It's not too terribly expensive (you can find good ones as cheap as $60), and its more than enough power for modern systems with future upgrades.
Same here TC, except I generally like to keep my eyes peeled on "budget" good units. I don't like seeing people spend more than they have to on anything.
