Where do I go from here?

My friend has the current rig (or so it seems from the speccy HTML saved file). My friend wants to upgrade some components over the next year or so, and I wanted to know where to start first. The 5870 (if that is what it is) seems to be decent, only about 15% or 20% slower than my 570. The Phenom II is one of the better chips for this motherboard. So... where first?

AMD Phenom II X4 945
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H
DIAMOND 5870PE51G Radeon HD 5870 (it doesn't realy say 5870, just "5800", but I looked at the clock and it seemed about right).
Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS
8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 459MHz (5-5-5-18)

The speccy HTML file if you want to browse it for more info

Well first of all that 5870 is loads slower than a 570. Second, yes that phenom quad core is still sufficient. I would suggest upgrading the graphics since it seems to be the weakest link in the rig. Depending on the budget maybe a 69xx or 77xx-78xx card would be nice.

Okay. I thought the GPU would be a nice place to start. I was thinking maybe a 670 or something a little bit slower. The Phenom will prob be a bottle neck to a 670, but whenever he upgrades the rest of his rig it will be even faster then. smile.gif

I would look in to getting an SSD first and then step up on the GPU the RAM amount is pretty sufficient at the moment,

But if games are a high priority then change up the Gpu to like you said a GTX-670,
