I hear ya. The only thing that made me more upset than this is when I bought this Blu Ray Player the other day. There was no hdmi to component to s-video to rca to coax adapter included. I was furious! How do I watch this thing?

That is the most retarded analogy I've ever heard. Everyone know those are a basic part of the car when buying. The adapter isn't needed for the phone to function properly. Try again

I agree that $29 is highway robbery, but I don't think anyone should EXPECT anything for free.
Seriously? Overreact much? I'll probably just plug my new charger in by my bed and call it a day.
I agree.

But when you are ordering a product and at first it says you ARE receiving a free adapter then they change their mind because they can profit from people buying them is made business. I don't think people are overreacting at all. Everyone that has a car/home accessory for the iphone is going to have to buy one. imo they should have included at least one. You never know maybe Apple will change there decision like when they gave out free bumpers/case!!!
The 30pin was royalty-based? Where can I find this info?

Very bad example, has no relation whatsoever. A car needs tires/passenger seat to function (passenger seat more for qualifying for at least the coupe/2door moniker). The iPhone doesn't need this adapter to function.

You should have looked at the box telling you what interface was required for the player. Why in the hell would you buy a Blu-ray player for a TV without an HDMI port? Blu-ray is meant to be viewed at 1080P not less than 480i.

If you're an average apple user (which, by definition, would include most people buying an iphone5), that propritary connection which has been forced down your throat for the last 9 years IS an essential part of of your iphone.

I read it somewhere. Moto has the patents for the 30pin. Its their tech.

But it does if you has accessories for it, like an ihome station!

You won't be forced to spend $40 for long, then you can just let the market bear out what they're worth.
I believe there's more going on in the lightning to 30 pin than just a new pinout, some active electronics which will drive up the cost a bit. Like I said, probably not a wise business move to just eat the cost on a lot of adapters that some people may not care about. I've got Airplay anyway, who needs a stinking cable tongue.gif

I'll be sure to tell video card manufacturers to no longer include Molex to 6 pin and DVI to VGA and Displayport adapters then and phones should no longer come with MicroSD to SD card adapters either. After all, why should they worry about my accessories when they're providing such a glorious and amazing product.

And the market argument is a ridiculous one since they should have affordable accessories at launch when so many people need them, not wait for people to reverse engineer the product and find something to work. It is a very wise business move to keep you customers happy when the product costs all of $0.10 to make. They won't mind as much spending $40 for additional adapters when they already got one free.

The fact is that it was a standard Apple pushed down everyone's throat for a long time. For them to radically change it and then charge you an exorbitant amount for an adapter to make it work with their ecosystem that you bought into is just absurd. You keep customer loyalty and a good brand image by including small and cheap things like that to make sure your product just works.

I can understand why people are upset but Apple should not be required to include an adapter for OLD devices with a NEW device. The Lightning connector is new technology, the 30-pin connector is being phased out, adapters are normally first or third party accessories not normally included in many products. The only adapters I usually find included in a product are the DVI variant included with most graphics cards. I think the anger is unjustified, people are not entitled to an adapter because they are choosing to move from a nearly decade old technology to a newer one.
