But you don't. You only have to pay the $30 to use the phone on all those devices, unless you have a phone for each of those devices and are using them all at once? In which case you are some sort of superhuman.

You can either have a product engineered to a higher degree and move on to the new connector, or you can buy an iPhone 4S. You only have to buy one of those adapters for your iPhone 5, why is that such a big deal? Why should it be free? You wouldn't expect a USB adapter if any Samsung or HTC phone decided to use a different connector.

The problem is the glut of accessories Apple marketed and licensed to work specifically with that connector. I agree that technology needs to move forward, but if you are going to radically change it, you have to keep your ecosystem in mind and keep affordable solutions to fix any problems that might arise.

People create ecosystems around a device, not a connector, and this is a new breed of device which is getting rid of useless stuff on it. Ecosystems require updates. Again, it's absolutely mindless Apple hate which people are putting forward here. $30 is quite affordable to most people. I don't think anyone who is buying an iPhone 5 will be struggling to find $30 to throw at an adapter.

If Apple change the connector, they're the devil. If they don't, they're the devil for having old technology and not innovating. They literally cannot win when presented with thoughtless argument.

Does anyone here know the real cost of the adapter to make? I'm sure there's a hefty markup on it since they're the only game in town, but these claims of them costing pennies are baseless. You have any proof?

No, because the Lightning connector is far better. Can you stream digital audio through that micro-usb whilst charging your device? I don't think so. It's mass storage and charge, that's it. Forget about streaming audio digitally to a dock and connecting a DAC for high quality audio, because you can't. They removed useless pins from the old connector and made it better (reversible).

It's also going to be far higher quality, those micro-usb connectors feel horrifically cheap, which is disheartening on my S3 in all honesty. It will connect properly and just feel good to use, micro-usb is not very experience-friendly as it very seldom seats properly.

At some point Android standards WILL change and this sort of 'outrage' will be absolutely non-existent, purely because it's not Apple.

At this point Apple can really charge anything they want for any of their products.

The iPhone probably costs less than $80 to manufacture in China.

Apple can make a lot more money selling $30 adapters. I am pretty sure a lot of Apple consumers have multiple docking devices. 3 other docking devices will cost $90 for 3 adapters.

That is one of the downsides to proprietary technology, but that is the choice one makes by purchasing Apple products. People support these types of business practices.

You can't use your iPhone 5 in more than one place at the same time, so why would you buy three adapters?

Do you think Apple users are going to carry around this huge adapter in their pocket?

Solution: Use BlackBerry and HTC Android phones. I used miniUSB for years on all my BB's then when I switched to HTC Android I have used microUSB. Not really an issue.

Industry wide standards for the win. Apple just does their own thing, enjoy your $30 adapter that you will probably need 2 of... 1 for your car and at least 1 for your house.

Sheeple.

The adapter was a bad move. What would have worked would have been the adoption of micro usb...then at least most people could use an adapter that they could have gotten on the cheap. Plus, it is just about the same size as the "Lightning"
