[Build Log] The Define Project - Page 24

Saturday noon... decided to get productive again.. well there're things I should prep before the blocks arrive.. so.. one of the things I liked about Igor's "project 30" is the cable management. He just pulled that off flawlessly and I'm taking example. However, I noticed that in the R4, the mobo tray isn't as wide as the Corsair Igor used so, I decided to use some more acrylic and extend it. Well, the idea is almost inevitable since I needed to make a mount for the res anyway. Two birds, one strike. biggrin.gif

It's finally taking shape.. well a physical mock up I made after positioning the tray extension:

* Ignore the fan orientation, it's obviously wrong. smile.gif

Extremely poor quality shots, sorry about that. I was in a hurry. wink.gif

Another small update.. since I don't have a "true" 680, I've got a 670 ftw, the writing on the backplate, had to go:

I like what you have done with the acrylic. I just recently watercooled my R4 and the thing I didn't like was that they stop the motherboard tray short. It makes routing cables harder and I had to mount the pump to the bottom HDD tray (I have the same pump top/res). Maybe one day I will steal that idea.

Was fixing the acrylic hard?

this will eventually be the best r4 on OCN... when it's done tongue.gif

Starting on my R4 today. Thanks for all the bold ideas you've shared so far - your attention to detail is incredible! Can't wait to see the finished product! thumb.gif

Glad it inspired you for your build.

The blocks arrived to post office.. in few days, it will finally be here! after so many weeks of endless waiting! biggrin.gif

Also, finally settled down on a new power supply for this build. I needed another psu for two reasons, first the x-560 is powering my temp rig so I can't disconnect it to work on it and stay online. Secondly, I plan on 2x 670 ftw sli, so I need more headroom than x-560 can offer. The x-560 isn't shy though, it can go up to 730w according to "hardware secrets" before it will auto-shutdown. Obviously though, it's not efficient at all to have it run on the edge of it's capacity. I did actually run 670 ftw sli on the 560 and it worked great, but without any sort of overclock which I plan to do once it's all under water. Ultimately, I went with a Seasonic p-760 that I found for a great price in the local classifieds:
