The SPF case by Thrustmaster looks really good but the two reviews I read were YAY! and NAY!. The latter being due to quality. I don't have a Vita, but for the PSP I always preferred the metal cases with foam padding. Both systems are bricks... not concerned if it fits in my pockets. IMO for travel get the metal ones; for home use I say a soft slip-in case.
Assuming there is a 3rd party parts/faceplate market, if it scratched you can just upgrade to something cool. But as I wrote that I realized we're talking about a touch screen/pad device and I haven't the slightest idea if it's one with the casing or not.
