Project Upgrade!

Thread Starter
Project upgrade: upgrade my current machine to fully max Borderlands 2. I loved the original game and since BL2 is set to drop Tuesday, I want to upgrade my machine for its arrival. The system specs aren't too high so I won't be dropping a whole lot of money. But I do want the best bang for my buck. I'll be getting a CPU, motherboard, ram and GPU. Here is a list of what I've got picked out:

CPU: AMD PHENOM X4 965 BE ($109.99 @ newegg)
MB: ASUS M5A88-M AM3+ ($99.99 @ newegg)
RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (4GB x 2) 1600 DDR3 ($37.99 @ newegg)
GPU: EVGA 560TI ($189.99 AR @ newegg)

I already have a WD Blue 500GB HD, Corsair 700GS psu, LG CD/DVD RW. All of this is in a Fractal Core 1000 case.

Total cost of upgrade: $437.96 after rebates. What do you guys think? Suggestions welcome.

If I may, I would get an Intel i3 3220 processor and an H77 or H67 motherboard for around 70$. You'll get more performance. Also, the GTX 560ti is getting a bit old. For 230$~ you can get a 7870 TFIII from MSI. However, if you want an nvidia card, get a GTX 660. redface.gif

There is a H77 ASRock motherboard for 69.99, Sata 6, USB 3.0. It looks good. How much faster/better is the 3220 over the 2100?

you can save more by reusing your 1333 ram

7850/7870 for the price are very nice cards. My sapphire works very well for 1920x1200 and getting decent frames. They seem to be the best bang for the buck at the moment. Also the samsung memory is doing very well in all aspects with being cheap, low profile, OC extremely well, just about the best ram right now that you can get considering air and water cooling.

My current monitor is 1280x1024 so I won't be playing at full 1080p. I'm pretty sure I can get by with a less powerful card..my 550ti might still have a few games left in it. But I am definitely needing to get a mobo/cpu upgrade. I'm just torn between the i3 2100 or the i5 2400.. I know it's locked, but I don't plan to do any overclocking and I'm sure that chip will last me 3-4 more years. It's just comes down to how much I want to spend that extra $60..
