Ducky shine not working

Thread Starter
I have a Ducky shine keyboard that is not working. I spilled a can of soda on it. As soon as I did I unplugged the keyboard and dried it out. I blew it out with compressed air and let it sit for a couple hours. When I plugged it back in nothing happens. The LED's still work, but not the keys. Windows comes up with an error 'USB device not recognized' Any help would would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a good chance it's dead. Any spills on a keyboard are bad but much more can go wrong on keyboards with back lighting.

It should be left to dry for 24 hours + unless there is a means to speed up the drying process, but I doubt compressed air would have been enough.

Let it dry for longer and hope for the best is all I can say. Plug it in later tomorrow.

If it does work the next thing will be to get rid of the stickiness of the soda.

Good luck, fingers crossed....

I would try to wash it if even after drying for many hours it still doesn't work. There could be a short somewhere and washing it would get rid of it.

(This would be the next thing, getting rid of the stickiness of the soda)

Thanks for the replies. I'll leave it sit over the weekend and see if that helps. If it does not does the Ducky shine have a warranty? I bought if from TigerImports.com in January.

I found that out, but I couldn't find any details about the warranty.

Warranty probably doesn't include covering the device in soda.

Your best bet is to wash it... get the syrup off the electronics. But considering that you plugged it in after it had shorts, damage might be already done.

Ok. I probably shouldn't have plugged in back in. I took all the keys off, but is there anything special about taking the big keys off? I haven't taken the space bar and other keys with the stabilizers off yet.

You should wash it, or at least clean the circuits with a wet towel. Just letting the soda dry won't make a difference, because it won't evaporate 100% like water or alcohol.
