I just got a good hand-me-down laptop from my sister and I'm working on it to optimize its performance since it isn't a bad laptop. But I got super limited funds. My desktop is top priority too and I have a few more pending upgrades to that.
My question for today is the laptop currently only has 4gb of PC3-10600S RAM of some manufacturer I am not familiar with.
RAM SPECS:
Hynix - 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600S-9-10-F2
It's made in korea too.
I'd like to upgrade and give the laptop 8gb of ram, just because I'd like it to have two sticks of RAM (O_O i think this laptop supports dual channel memory) I also am aiming for this since I think this is the cheapest form of upgrade one can get for a laptop.
I am however not sure if there are no issues with using a different brand of RAM. 10600S ram is PC1333 right? So I should be ok with getting the same frequency RAM and pair it with this one. Is that correct? I don't know how to find out if this ram is CL9 or 10 too... would there be an issue if what I bought was a different CL?
Honestly I haven't tried mixing and matching RAM module brands before. I would always get the same brand of ram.
Enlighten me please.
*EDIT : Its an HP Pavilion dv3 btw...

and quite frankly now that I have a daughter and wife, there are times they require me to travel, go to the province to ferry my daughter to the grandparents, and I"m thinking soon there'll be PTA meetings and principal's office summons for misbehavior. There's already a lot of times I've been waiting in line for something for a very long time and I always thought I could be at home with the internet. LOL. In short... my old life of me superglued in front of a desktop is just over. So being mobile's going to help kill the boredom. I initially had plans on just selling this laptop and getting a PSvita or something. But that would be a waste of a good laptop I guess.
