[2ch] Radeon HD8870 & HD8850 Details leaked - Page 4

Just remember that cards are priced relative to their performance. You won't see a $200 card match GTX 670 performance anytime soon.

Here we go again. biggrin.gif

I was waiting for 7870 release, when leaks came out September of last year. But eventually went to the 560ti (6950 wasn't available at that time) because release took longer than expected. Now I am deciding on buying a 7950 this coming holidays and now we have this new leaks about 8870.

It's a mistake to judge 670's performance by it price tag. It's way too expensive.

And if a $300 card like HD7950 can match 670 now..... then in next 3-4 months a $250 card is very likely to match that performance.
HD8850 may start at $250 IMO just like HD7850.

It seems like GCN and Kepler were both great architecture upgrades. I am really hoping for 78xx prices to get knocked down sooner rather than later. High hopes on this leaks legitimacy smile.gif

The whole world is.

It'll determine everything for/about the next gen cards. Hopefully it is a beast and keeps up with GK110 and hopefully GK110 is the monster everyone is hoping it is.

I'm hoping they're both monsters and they're on par with each other (just like current gen), and I'm also hoping for a similar jump in performance (like the 580 to 680 / 7970 jump). If we get more than that...that's even better.

AMD keeping up with GK110 is pretty unlikely, They would most likely need to do as big of a jump as the 7970 was compared to last gen. Without lots of extra die space and a new process, the chances are slim.

Still, would be good to see them get a really good GPU out asap so NV would also release GK110 asap tongue.gif

Not necessarily true. Note that we're seeing 8870 leaks here, not 8970 leaks.

We also have no idea how good or bad GK110 is going to be either. For all we know, it could be another GTX480. Which, while yes...it was a solid card, it came out far too late, and it was a disappointment compared to the 5870 (on release, especially considering how long the 5870 had been out for).
