6850 in gta iv?

Well, I really hope I posted this in the right place but I'm not sure, didn't want to post it in games because everyone had questions relating to the actual storylines, etc.

Here's my problem:

I set vsync to be "always on" in ati catalyst control center because when setting on vsync in gta iv I was getting 90-20 fps. Which is obviously not vsync. Even after setting ati catalyst control vsync always on, vsync is still obviously not on, same 20-90 fps depending where I am (and in loading screens 1.5-2.5k fps). Another problem: I'm running a 2600k and this card on this game, and sometimes when I look around I get 20 fps, this is with the video ram usage still in green (my settings are maxed just enough to have a little leeway in the v-ram). I'm pretty sure I should be hitting 50+ at all times? I googled this and people said to get the 1.1.1.0 patch, but I can't find it anywhere... and I don't even know if that's what's causing this weird fps. I'm running the normal gta iv, not anything from the episodes. It's frustrating because this is mostly a cpu-based game and my cpu is overkill, even on the in game benchmark test (which averages 61 fps and also obviously does not use vsync, since i have fraps on while running everything) it says my ram usage is at 40%, my vram at 99%, and my cpu at only 40%.

If your shadows are set to "Very High," don't expect 50+ FPS. I think you may just need to turn your settings down.

Dude, why are you trying to pose a knowledgeable person... 50+ fps on gta iv with a 6850 and ESPECIALLY combined with 2600k should be easy. I can run skyrim on higher settings with more fps than this..... -.- and I like how you ignored the main point of my question which is why vsync is failing. If you really want posts that bad please post it on a non-tech help forum

With a single 6950, or two, I don't get stable GTA IV FPS.
Game is optimized like poop.

Skyrim is irrelevant in this case, it is a much easier game to run smoothly on PC.

Dont expect too much from GTAIV. Make sure that you set Vsync in the in game setting or the config file. GTAIV is a horribly optimized game regardless of what hardware you are running. Even with my GTX 480 I wont see 60+ FPS in many areas with all settings maxed.

Yeah ik its optimized badly.. but cmon. 20 fps?! jesus christ. sometimes it even goes into 19-ish.. and theres supposed to be that update that helps a lot which i cant really find.. found info about it here http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/gamerz/143460-gta-iv-eflc-only-20-fps.html

btw do you use vsync? and do you know how to make it work properly

yeah as you can see. i already said vsync is on both in game and set to override in the driver.. if you can't get 60 fps in most areas, i should at least be able to get 40 fps in most areas

I dont bother with Vsync, I run the latest updates, and drivers and I have no problems, even running mods.

turn down the draw distance, and shadowing it helps substantially
