Budget CPU wc setup, need ideas

Thread Starter
I need to overclock my upcoming 3570k to at least 4.5ghz (i like that clock, either that or 5.0 but that is asking to much). Should I go with a H100 or a costum loop? Ive been making a costum loop list but it goes way up the price of the H100. What is the cheapest costum WC setup that will outperform the H100? The case will be an Arc Midi

Still learning the ends and outs, but you will nearly have to triple the cost of a H100 to out-perform the H100 by enough for it to be worth the extra expense, IMO.

The Rasa kits are fine, but it's generally better to build your own kit (with better pump, res, rad, fans, whatever)

Now if I'm proven dead-wrong, please take this with a grain of salt. thumb.gif

H100 with some good fans in push pull should do you just great. I currently have an h100 as an intake in my CM HAF X CASE with 4 cougar vortex 120mm pwm fans in push/pull config and they are very quiet and pretty great airflow. The h100 cooling my 2700k at 4.8GHZ @1.37 offset voltage keeps my idle temps at the high 20's low 30's and I never break 60C under game load unless it is very hot outside (No AC) biggrin.gif Usually it's actually low 50's or even high 40's!. It's an amazing little CLC cooler, super easy install, comes with pre-applied therm paste which is actually high quality so you don't have to worry about if you applied it improperly. It really is all you need if you just want to do WC on your CPU.

If you wan't to do GPU WC though I would recommend putting together more funds and getting yourself a nice loop with good quality components, it's not hard at all and well worth it if you do it right. If you don't want the hassle of maintenance and the annoyance of draining your loop if you want to install anything that is being WC'd by the loop then stick with a CLC like the h100, very high performance for what it is.

why not get a XSPC rasa 750 for $150? it will out perform a H100 and only costs like $30 more.

Well first things first.

Any water cooling loop that utilizes a 240mm rad or above will out perform the H100. The only thing that lends to the H100's power is the fan that it uses. Other then that the thing is kind of under powered for the money.

However, before I go too far into water cooling, you do realize that at 4.5ghz you will only need a decent air cooler right? 4.6ghz is still manageable on air and so is 4.7 if you are lucky.

If you have a chip that likes a lot of volts, then 4.7 might require water cooling. 4.8 will most likely require a decent water cooling loop, and anything over 4.8 is probably not feasible on a tight budget.

This ^ ...However, I think the H100 goes on sale more often. I got the h100 a while back because it was on sale for 70 (I want to say it was a MiR... really don't remember).
