Vinyl wrapping complex shapes

Hey guys,

we all know that the 3M Di-Noc stuff is awesome. If you heat it up, it expands to up to 100%. I've seen people do complex shapes with it, but never something as hard as what I would like to try.
I've got a CM Storm Sniper case and my plasic panels need a little restoration. In case you don't know how the case (and the panels) look, here are some pictures of them:

top:

bottom:

front:

The front panel would probably be the easiest to wrap, but I'm really concerned about the top, because of the many recesses and 90° angles.

What do you think? Is it possible? Have you seen someone doing anything similar? I'd appreciate any kind of input thumb.gif

I'm sure you could, if you measure and cut it properly where the lines are then heat it up. It should look pretty good as well.

Thanks for the answer TimUK. Are you talking about heating and wrapping the vinyl around the edges, or are your talking about fitting them just on top of the plastic lines (cutting the excess off the sides)?

Earlier this day I tried to wrap the front part and it wasn't that hard. I think I'll get myself some new vinyl and do it again with primer and a bit of a different technique. I'm still scared of the top though biggrin.gif

I think wrapping them will look nicer but it may be harder to do. give it a try and see what it turns out like.

I've received the vinyl yesterday, so I'll try it today after I got home.

//edit:

Alright, took me approximately 3 hours.

I'm sorry for the picture quality, this was a snapshot with a phone. - updated
Next update will probably be tomorrow.

I haven't really made any progress lately. I covered the bottom part, but didn't take any pictures yet.
After my last exam (coming tuesday), I'll hopefully finish the remaining work. thumb.gif

Looks good! I just recently put some of this on my gpu and psu. I was thinking about maybe trying it on the heatspreaders for my RAM and after seeing you do this on that top panel I know it can be done! thumb.gif
