Setting NB Frequency Higher than 2600 in the BIOS displays as 2000 in CPU-Z and AMD Overdrive.

Here are my relevant system specs:

Motherboard: M4A79XTD EVO
CPU: Phenom II X6 1090T
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 2GB stick*4 (underclocked to 1333, with tight timings)

Alright I'm overclocking my system again because the house is cooling back down as the Season is about to end, and I first start with the CPU-NB Frequency and Voltage.

I was able to clock it at 2600mhz, but when I upped it to 2800 or 3000, my computer would boot up just fine load into windows, but when I checked the frequency in either CPU-Z , or AMD Overdrive it would display as 2000mhz.

NB VID also shows up as the default and never shows actual voltage. It's stuck at 1.15v regardless of what it is set at in the bios.

Another odd thing is I'm unable to monitor the northbridge temperatures in HWMonitor64, which worries me. Is the sensor damaged or something?

I'd love to overclock my NB Frequency to at least 2800mhz but I can't get it to stick when I boot up into Windows 7.

Any ideas? I'm stumped.

Have you tried flashing to the latest motherboard BIOS available from Asus?

You sure they aren't sticking? CPU-Z has a known problem with displaying stock settings even after overclocking. As long as they aren't switching back in the bios after you restart, they should stay at the settings you set.

I wouldn't overclock though until you get that sensor fixed, could blow something.

Check the BIOS for the correct rating.

CPUZ is buggy beyond version 1.60.

Another reason could be is that your settings are resetting to default due to a failing CMOS battery.

Thanks for the replies! I am also using the latest bios, and yes the settings are sticking in the BIOS; it's just when I look in hardware monitoring programs that it shows up at 2000mhz when overclocking above 2400mhz in the bios. I've had this computer since 2011, and it's been kept on 24/7 about 70% of the time, so maybe it is the battery.

It's me again, forgot all about this problem of mine.

Today I was trying to overclock my CPU/NB Frequency to 3000mhz again and yeah... shows up as 2000mhz in all hardware monitoring software.

Is there any way I could test to see if the 3000mhz speed is actually in effect, through some kind of testing or benchmarking? I tried playing a game of Battlefield 3, and didn't notice any performance increase after setting the frequency to 2000mhz to 3000mhz.

UPDATE: After spending 2 days trying to figure this out, I've come to the conclusion that my motherboard (M4A79XTD EVO) is resetting back down to anywhere between 2000-2400mhz anytime I set the cpu/nb frequency above 2600mhz. I even tried setting FSB to 230 and 250mhz, and it was still reseting the frequency.

I guess I'll have to settle for 2600mhz for now. I hope this helped anyone who is wondering why this motherboard is unable to hit above 2600mhz on the cpu/nb.
