SM5 PSU Mounts

Can anyone give a reason why a mATX case needs two PSU mounts?
It adds unnecessary height, weight and cost to the case. Reversible motherboard in a mATX isn't a must have.

The smaller the better. A 19" tall mATX case is excessive.

It gives you the flexibility of where you want to place the PSU. You have the flexibility of rad positioning.
Remember, the other PSU space does not have to remain unused; it can be filled with radiator/fan real estate.

Reversible, beg to differ, many people have these sitting on their desks so a reversible case is probably more of a must have here. It gives us the flexibility of changing orientation at will rather than having to buy a brand new case if we decide to move the case and still want the window visible.

A smaller case would certainly not be that versatile and mod friendly and the whole point of Case-Labs is just that, why else shop here, right!

All of that is great, but with excess features comes excess price. I'm sure some will justify two triple rads in the SM5 for some reason, even though they should have bought the SM8 instead. Flexibility is great, but not in the form of a mid tower. Between CL and Corsair, I'm still waiting for a Cube mATX.

CL said a M5 wasn't in high demand, but people mysteriously wanted one right after that statement. I've purchased my share of high-end cases, but I'm not itching to spend $325-350 on a mATX case before add-ons, which make it $400 easy. Maybe one day CL would make a Cube mATX with 2x120/140 fan mounts at the top, front, and bottom, that's shorter than 15" for sub $300.

For now, CL pretty much upsold me to the SM8/M8 based on dimensions and price.

The SM5 was never intended to be a "small" case only smaller than the other cases we sell. It is part of a family of cases that share features, R&D, and tooling costs. It will be reasonably portable, especially given it's weight, and can pack a pretty big punch. For some, it will be exactly what they want. WorldExclusive is probably correct, that for most people the SM8 might be a better value, but for others the "fit" is the overriding concern. The time may come when we come up with a dedicated mATX case (maybe "Bullet" which has been on the shelf for awhile), but that time isn't here yet.

Understandable that the Merlin line share the same features, regardless of ATX size.
The SM8 is an impressive case.

Bullet is an interesting name. B5 mATX and B2 ITX/HTPC/NAS.

Photochopped?  ;)   Personally I can't wait for the smaller sized cases. The SM5 will be perfectly sized for my wifes next rig transplant!
