Not that we can't get the police to call them and demand IP records.
Other than that, does anyone have any smart tips or any personal experience or anything?
I'm going to make sure he installs lojack when he gets it back. Notice I said when.
Thanks for any little help ahead of time, he's really depressed because he had like 3 things that he loved and the most important one was taking pictures and editing them on his laptop.
Edit: Oh yeah and I've been checking craigslist and ebay every 3 or 4 hours since I heard what happened.
Since its a kid, kindly speak with the parents and explain the situation.
I know when my friend's Mac got stolen there was a mountain of evidence (fingerprints, how they got in, time period, names, etc etc) but the police claimed they didn't have anything to make an arrest on. Managed to get the kids(they were 16-17) mother to pay the insured value of the machine - which was actually more than what the Mac would sell for.
Other than that, you came here asking for help, then want to disrespect the people trying to offer advice.
