argh wth is wrong with this game

Sometimes (often, but only sometimes) when i do something that will put the game out of focus (toggle resolutions, go into window mode or change mods) Doom 3 will crash. It gives me that "Program has performed an illegal operation and needs to close... Send error report?" thing. But it's only when the game changes res or goes out of focus. It happened before i reinstalled windows and after (i'm on a clean install right now, and the problem persists). Anyone know if this is a hardware problem or what's causing it? Thanks.

Another thing: sometimes when i exit the game (it exits fine), it says on my windows desktop in another window:

'The instruction at "0x6957be7d" referenced memory at "0x0e7aef04". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program'

Like i said, the program exits fine and everything, it just gives me this stupid error after it's done exiting. I did a mem test, but i got no errors. The name of that window popup thing is "DOOM3.exe - Application Error"

hmm weird, maybe you are running at strange resolution or your card isn't good enough for D3, i have too say that i have never had any problems with D3. My 6600 would play it fine on everything max ! (the box cover of my card said that it was recommended for D3 )

I can't remember when this problem started.... I have a feeling it's the card though (not that it isn't good enough for the game, maybe my clocks/pipes or something on it).

I've had this problem before...But mine had a stupid solution to it. I reinstalled the game a magic kicked on for mine...However might not work for you

Are you overclocked at all? If I overclock too high i get that same error in source games.

It had been happening, so i decided just to reinstall windows all together, so my D3 install is fresh, yet the problem persists.

I am overclocked on my CPU, memory and graphics. My CPU/RAM has been OCed like this for a long time, so i don't think that it is the problem. The graphics is a bit shady, i'll admit... I think i'll try clocking it to stock, then see if it happens (it only happens sometimes, though).

My graphics is weird; nVidia drivers detect it as a 6800 Ultra (it's a 6800XT with DDR1 RAM), and then in the drivers when i uncheck the "show only compatable hardware," there's like 4 different 6800XT drivers. What's up with that?
