Need a good CPU cooler, Please help!

I am building a entire computer and from what i hear the most future proof thing to buy is a CPU cooler. So i decided i might go ahead and spend a little more money toward it. I will be running a new i5 3570k and would like to OC to about 4.2-4.5 what ever is safest for the life of the cpu. I would rather go air because water freaks me out. This is my current build its not completely finished.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($215.98 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($27.98 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: MSI Z77 MPOWER ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($209.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($98.03 @ Amazon)
Storage: Crucial M4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($99.99 @ B&H)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB Video Card ($449.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 750W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($110.17 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($24.98 @ Newegg)
Monitor: Samsung S23A700D 120Hz 23.0" Monitor ($309.15 @ CompUSA)
Case: HAF 932
Total: $1546.26
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

I am currently at 30$ on that cm but i have been told its not good enough. I'm willing to go up to 80$ but i rather be around the 50$ range if its possible. If the 80$ is a noticeable amount better i would be ok with that. Also if the company sends out brackets for free for future upgrades that would be a big +.

Thanks all in advance!

Hello. The hyper 212+ is a great cooler and a great bang for buck but it is far from the best. I am running a 212+ myself but I know the Noctua NH-D14 is a favorite of the enthusiast community. It is a bit more pricey however.

This chart might help a bit. http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/cooler_master_hyper_212_evo_cpu_cooler_review,13.html

Hope this helps. Cheers.

That hyper 212 evo should be good. I am using they hyper 212+ on a 2600k @ 4.5 ghz., and you should be able to get the same oc with that cooler. I feel that after something around this price ranged, you will be paying much more for minimal cooling difference, unless you go with something like custom watercooling loop.

4.5 ghz should be easy to do with this cooler, I do recommend some better thermal paste as i saw a 5-7 c difference when I changed it to the shinetsu paste.

$215.98, $209.99, $98.03, $99.99, $449.99, $110.17, $309.15
Case: HAF 932 approx. $160.
Total: $1546.26

But might go up to $50 for cooler?rolleyes.gif

I think you need to get what you are trying to tell us to jive with where you are spending your dollars. biggrin.gif

Maybe put off the HDD, or the SSD, or th monitor by using what you have now if you have some now. Optical drive can be anything as long as it works.

Oh, I don't see an RAM on your list. wink.gif

Cooler, case, power supply, fans, HDDs, ... can be long term investments.

Don't skimp on cooling.

While the 212 is certainly fine at 4.2-4.5 in my experience it doesn't quite cut it around/past 4.8. If he decides he wants to go with a higher overclock in the future (which very well might happen smile.gif ) the Noctua or something a bit beefier then the 212 and will go further.

When I milkyway@home with my 2500k @ 4.8ghz 1.4 vcore my cpu reaches around the 70 degree mark with the 212+. I won't even consider taking it to 5.3 @1.52 which it will do with this cooler.\

I do not have a spare HDD or SDD or monitor laying around. The only working computer i currently have is my dell laptop. And there is no ram because the mobo comes with ram. I hear its not that good but it only has to last me 2-3months then i'm buying samsung ram.
