212 is fine for the level of Overclocking that you're going for.

Edit: To my knowledge, no. AFAIK the 212+ evo is the best cooler at that price range.

I used 1 in my previous build and knew it worked great but I wasn't too sure how it would do with the i5 2500k. I've had this CPU as high as 4.7 Ghz and temps were great. I've been really happy with it. For the price you can't beat it.

Depends on the ram you are getting, it will block one or more slots with high profile memory sticks, not with low profile ones. Ripjaws etc are ok as far as I know

Total: $1546.26
But might go up to $50 for cooler?rolleyes.gif
I think you need to get what you are trying to tell us to jive with where you are spending your dollars. biggrin.gif
Maybe put off the HDD, or the SSD, or th monitor by using what you have now if you have some now. Optical drive can be anything as long as it works.
Oh, I don't see an RAM on your list. wink.gif
Cooler, case, power supply, fans, HDDs, ... can be long term investments.
Don't skimp on cooling.

BTW just fyi, I already own the case its not included in this build budget..

Alternatively, you can try water/radiation solutions Corsair H80 / H100 depending on your case set up. You won't have any problems with RAM set up if that is a major concern.

lol see that thing is rediculos big. I'm not sure i'm 100percent confirtable with that thing hanging off my motherboard. It would also completely block my little window on the side of my haf 932 case... just saying.

You don't need to change anything, no need for a 2nd fan so long as you have an exhaust fan on your case. 4.5ghz is nothing really, shouldnt go above 75 degrees.

I have mine set up with 2 fans push/pull. You can probably get away with just 1 but I had 2 so I went ahead and tossed a second on there. The Noctua is nice. Its 1 that I was considering but I just couldn't justify 70-ish more $$ for it. Its a great cooler just a bit overpriced IMO.

EDIT for clarification: If I was running a really high OC 24/7 I'd have went with something like the Noctua. But I'm not so I would rather go with something like the Hyper 212+ and use the cash I saved to take my daughter to a movie or something. thumb.gif

thank you for the reassurance. If i ever want to push it over that i can always pick a noctua up later on it wont be a big deal. I have very good air flow inside my case and i might have another fan blowing directly at it from the back of my drive bays. So with all that in mind i think for what i want RIGHT NOW the noctua is a bit over kill.
