Looking for General Purpose/light gaming laptop (AMD Trinity/Fusion?)

What is your maximum budget?
- $800

What country are you in?
- Canada

What will be the uses of this laptop?
- General Purpose Workstation and light gaming. ie. ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MATLAB, Maple, Statistical Tools, and some light gaming. Some of my applications are parallelized but dualcore is good enough for the datasets I'm working with. I will run any large analysis on a real desktop system. So an AMD A4 or A6 dual core chip will be fine (I'm not opposed to Intel but if I want to play games their HD4000 is kind of weak and also i5 and i7 chips that are paired with those are expensive).

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
- Nope, any brand is fine except for ultra "cheap" brands with cheap/flimsy plastics and such (ie. How Acer used to be with cheap plastics and flimsy bezels). I want something that can take some abuse/normal wear and tear (When I use my stuff, I really "use" it, I don't baby it, that's why my Oakleys have lots of microscratches from hitting tree branches while biking compared to other people with lenses that look brand new)

What screen size do you require?
- 14.1" at 1280x800 is good enough for me maybe even a bit less

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
- New preferred but refurb/recertified (with warranty) okay as well, not looking for used.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
- I can play demanding games on a real desktop, but light gaming like League of Legends would be a bonus

What operating system do you need? (if any)
- Whatever OS comes bundled (I can get an OS through that MS Ultimate Steal student thing).

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
- I don't care about aesthetics as long as it functions, it could look like a POS for all I care. Function over form for me.

How much hard drive space do you need?
- Doesn't matter. I will install my own SSD (Agility 4/Vertex4) and clone the stock image over. Don't want an SSD that comes with the lappy since they're usually not that great with crappy controllers. SSD cost is external to the final cost

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
- Webcam, HDMI out, and maybe a USB 3.0 port if it's available (not a deal breaker, I can deal with having USB 2.0 no problem)

No one can find me a lappy that will fit my requirements? What can I do to make it easier to find something?

OP edited to make the selection hopefully broader.

Your selection for a Canadian price is near impossible. The size and resolution you listed is very difficult to find. However, this laptop should do EVERYTHING you want it to do. The only true downside is that the screen resolution is a little bit lower than you specified, and the notebook is 15.6"

That's the closest I could get.

OK I will loosen my restrictions again I guess. The Toshiba i5 looks like a decently nice lappy but I consider 15.6" to almost be getting towards "desktop replacement" category. I'm aiming at under 5 lbs here. I'm not a very strong person and already carrying a million textbooks and other papers and stuff.

Also I was at my local Future Shop and I saw this Samsung Series 5 13.3".

www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/id/10208060.aspx?srccode=cii_6580890&cpncode=30-6109803&CMP=LEC-Chnl_Inteligence

Any opinions? Looks like a decently snappy lappy and the 13.3" definitely helps to keep weight down. I could see myself using something like that even if it is a bit small for me tastes...

It's a dual-core trinity. On CPU intensive tasks, that thing will not last.

Hmm....

14", Quad core, dual crossfire graphics, and an alright screen resolution (I definitely do like the WXGA+, but it's something I can skimp on).... AND it fits in my budget. Thanks Cannon.

It should be more than I need for any workstation analysis that I do in the near future (like I said I have a desktop workstation to work on large datasets and the lappy is more on the go and on the fly stuff than large planned projects).

+ rep for you.
