Uprading. Possibly going to AM3+ and waiting out for Piledriver?

Thread Starter
Ok, well, I had previously posted in another thread that I'm going to end up getting an SSD this week, as it looks. However, I want to go ahead and take full advantage of the 6gb speeds, which means I need a new motherboard.
I'm not in position to buy those along with a new CPU when my 965 still does a good job, and I'm curious to see what the FX 8350 will bring.

I'm assuming all of these "leaked" benchmarks are true, and that the new FX puts it up somewhere between the 2500k and 2600k on multithreaded apps? This is fine with me, as I'm using my rig quite a bit for video encoding/dvd authoring and will also move into Photoshop and more music recording.

I am very aware of what Intel is putting out right now, but I don't know want to have to go full Intel just to use this SSD, and if I can get 2500k or so with the 8350, I'd like to think that would be a good jump from my 965BE.

Am I also correct in assuming that PD won't have the insane power requirements(when overclocking) that BD has?

Just getting some thoughts together for where I want to take this build.

I hear that Windows 8 has much better support for Bulldozer and Piledriver, so make sure you run some benchmarks in W8 to see how things stack up.

I would wait to see what piledriver brings to the table wink.gif

Your guess is just as good as ours biggrin.gif

Though I do believe that power requirements should be lower compared to BD.

I'd honestly expect a tad higher performance than what the "leaked" benchmarks showed. There's only so much to go by on with a 2011 sample chip.
