Oldie - Can't Overclock my Q6600 2.4 GHZ - Asus P5N-D Mobo

Thread Starter
CPU - Q6600 2.4 GHZ
MOBO - Asus P5N-D
RAM - 4 GB Corsair - 800 MHZ 5-5-5-18

I know I'm a few years late. I am currently trying to invest in a new computer, so I bought a new graphics card for my old system, but I just wanted to see if I could overclock my CPU until the new one.

Anyway, I have tried just about everything.

Sometimes, my computer will boot when the FSB is set to 1600, but it will not boot when set at the 1400. Often times, it will freeze at the Motherboard screen (where it prompts you to go into BIOS). Other times, it will freeze when Windows is loading. Then the rare times, it'll boot into windows, but crash in a game.

I've set the multiplier to 8x, and found that my computer boots and runs when the FSB is set to 1550. However, when I run Crysis, it freezes just moments when loaded into the game ( which is strange, because I ran several IBT and Orthos at 1550 8x, and it passed... but it couldn't play a game for more than a minute)
I've upped the voltages on the Vcore to 1.5, HT - 1.44, NB - 1.44, SB - Auto, but I've had mild success. Changing the voltages seem to have helped me boot into windows, but not run games.

I've set the FSB as low as 1300 on 9x and 8x with no success.

Is it possible the CPU is just too old? I don't know what else could be stopping my CPU from easily going to 3.4... but I can't even get 2.8 out of it. Any help is appreciated.

Use 9x Multi. Set the CPU FSB Strap so that the Ram is running at 800Mhz or less. Enable Load Line Calibration if you have this setting.

Put the old GPU back in and see if games crash, maybe the GPU is faulty.
