What is the function of this component inside my Coolermaster HAF X?

Hi.

I am trying to put together a new build in a new Coolermaster HAF X. I discovered this strange component inside the 5.25 bays and I am trying to figure out what it is and why they put it there.

I think it is to be used for SSD drives, but I am not 100% certain.

Can someone please explain it to me?

If it truly is for SSD's, what is the benefit of using it rather than simply plug into the SATA III socket on the MB? Is it designed for RAID? Why a separate circuit board?

I am kinda confused on this strange addition and not sure exactly what to do with it!

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,

Soar

PS How do I post a pic of this component?

If your talking about the 2 X docks on the front bottom of the 5.25 drive area. they are used for hot swapping sata drives with out opening the case.

It is a hot swap bay for 1 or 2 hdd's or ssd's. Just screw the drive to the tray that slides out and push it gently back in. The run a molex plug from your psu to it and 1 or 2 (depending on if you used both) sata wires from it to the motherboard. That is all that it is.

CyberDemonz101,

Ok, thank you for the info. Well, next question: why do people hot swap SSD's? Not sure if I have a need to do so.

Do they switch SSD's between various computers?

Ok, but why hotswap? What is the purpose?

The hot swap stuff can be used for backups or even massive file transfer to another pc not on the network. Lets take 500gigs of MP3. no way in hell ill file transfer that much. So ill just put it all on a drive. pull it out like a usb drive and pass it to my friend who will put it in his hot swap drive and bam 500gig file transfer.

More or less a hot swap drive is just a massive over sized usb stick. I personally don't have mine connected. Now say If i was a soldier in the army still living in the barracks this thing would be the most epic thing.
