"Windows cannot be installed on this disk" - installing win7 on ssd

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am trying to install Win7 on the following

cpu: i7 3770k
motherboard: gigabyte z77x-d3h
sdd: samsung 830

I booted it up right after building it and booted into the Win7 installer.

1) BIOS recognizes my SSD
2) BIOS is set for AHCI mode

When I get to the screen to pick which drive to install it to, there is a warning that says "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer bios menu".

I am still able to press Next though, and the installation is going on. What happened here? Why did I get that warning above and am still able to install?

try disconnecting any HDD's you may have and see how that goes. when installing windows onto an SSD, always unplug the SATA cables on other drives

is the drive formatted?!

Format the drive.
Restart the PC.
Try clicking next when you choose your previously formatted partition.

The DVD drive and SSD are the only SATA devices connected (no hdd).

The SSD came right out of the box, so I'm guessing it was already formatted. On the Windows set up screen, the "Format" button was greyed out. I clicked "Next" anyways and it has installed successfully without any issues.

So my question is just why I got that error msg when everything installed just fine?

click on advanced when installing windows, then click the drive and press delete then format. it will ask to make 100mb of system space. then you should be good to go.

Also, are there any thumb drives plugged in currently? If so, remove them.
Once again...
