Overclocking my 6850

Thread Starter
I got it stable on 975 clock 1200 memory clock, and 1.2v Temps dont go over 45 degrees and I get 27 fps in 1080- furmark. I'm using sapphire trix. My cooling is using DWood's bracket with an Antec 620. However, when I play guild wars two the AMD Drivers occasionally crash and then recover. Is there anything I should be doing or anything I should look out for? This is my first overclock. Thanks for any help.

If the drivers are crashing in game then its not 100% stable. 975 on the core is on the outer limits from the reading I have done.

When I overclock GPUs I leave the mem at stock and clock the Core to find best stable core OC.
the I put the Core at stock and OC the Mem. I usually find that you cant combine the two Max overclocks in which case I would drop the Memory back a bit.

I would try upping the core volts to 1.22 and dropping the memory back to 1150MHz.

I used to think that way, but have learned to discount it after my final overclocks.

Stock:
Core: 800Mhz
Memory: 1250Mhz

At first I got this:
Core: 980Mhz
Memory: 1250Mhz

Anything higher on the memory would get me a crash, but then for some random reason I tried overclocking the Memory FIRST then the Core SECOND. This was my final score (Oddly enough..)

Core: 980Mhz
Memory: 1500Mhz

This was on a 6950, so yes it wasn't the same card.. But you can get stable max clocks on both memory AND core, it just takes hours of countless tweaking and testing. Then again, you might have one of 'those' cards which can't get the max on both. Just take your time, rushing will only get you shoddy results.
