Ridiculous temperatures in prime95

Thread Starter
I'm running an i5 760 @ 3.5ghz with an A50 cooler on top of it. Once I start the torture test, the temperatures will immediately jump up to 70°C and then increase to 80 in less than two minutes. I remember the last time I ran this a couple months ago, it was barely at 59°C after an hour.

I haven't had any issues with it until today when I was playing mass effect 1 and i saw temperatures peaking at 70°C and decided to run prime95 again.

It has only been a year since I installed the A50 heatsink and applied thermal paste, does thermal compound need replacing that often?

any ideas?

Your TIM should be okay.

Is your HS loose? taken any knocks? Just check to make sure its snug. Fan/s still going?

If in doubt, just remount and re-TIM.. cant hurt. If temps are still out, at least you can cross that off your list of things to check. smile.gif

Don't think I've touched the heatsink at all lately, but I did install a 560GTX card right next to it recently.

All fans are running at 100% according to HWmonitor, so I think they're fine.

I'll give reseating and reapplying the thermal paste a try smile.gif thanks!

EDIT: might have found something that could be causing this. Saw a max vCore voltage in HWmonitor of 1.44V. Shouldn't be up this high for only 3.5ghz right? I think I may have done a really poor OC job frown.gif

EDIT#2: Yup definitely the overclock, I reset everything back to stock and I'm only in the 50s right now for prime95 frown.gif

Reseat heatsink with fresh thermal paste. Is your pump rpm normal or outs it dropping out? Use hwmonitor to test
