OC stable at 3.6 now, met my goal. Going to try and push it a little further tomorrow, my temps have barely even budged.

Yeah, I know it's a pretty barebones board but I've seen overclocks on it match other boards just fine.

660 non ti version is your best bet. Eventhough, you will be held back by not having PCI 3.0 you will still utilize the 660 well.

any PCI-E 2.0 motherboard will work fine with these new PCI-E 3.0 graphics cards . the bandwidth provided by PCI-E 2.0 16x slot will be more than sufficient.

The reason I say don't overclock is because it wont handle a high overclock for long, after awhile the phases will either melt or explode (It's happened to me)

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2844#

the board which is in the OP sig rig supports 130w CPUs like QX 6850 and QX 9770. so it should do fine with a Q6600 overclocked to 3.6 Ghz. But it would be advisable to not push further. being a 65nm CPU the power consumption will be significant at 3.6 Ghz. OP stick to 3.6 Ghz. that should be more than enough for running a HD 7870 .

Honestly, I can't find any good deals on any of the nvidia cards.

Because I don't have the money yet!

Ah yes, I guess people won't really come back to say they had problems in the same thread they achieved their OC in.

Does the HD7850 / HD7870 Perform close to HD6950? Then NO.

I had a HD6950 2gb Unlocked, paired with a Q9650 at 3925mhz.

In games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 / Medal of Honor 2010 the Usuage would hover between 60% and 70%.

You better either buy a cheaper card for the time being and put rest of money away for a cpu/mobo upgrade.

I would get GTX470.

I used to have one with my Q6600 build it ran smoothly on GTA/borderlands/Grid e.c.t it was a match made in computing heaven.
