Asrock Z77 OC Formula Overclocking / troubleshooting/ Discussion - Page 28

GGRRRR!!!!! Today out of nowhere I'm getting almost uncontrollable 00000124 BSOD's. I haven't changed anything, my OC has been running perfectly fine. I can see one BSOD every once in a while but I had probably 6-7 in less than an hour. It seems to run fine in safe mode. If I clear CMOS and go back to default I'm still getting them. This happened to me a couple of months ago out of the blue and I reloaded Windows and started from scratch.

Gonna try and troubleshoot this some more first.....

edit: I had a brain fart. I have the Samsung green memory and I'm trying to atleast hit 2133. When I try to save certain timings it defaults back to 1600. Right now I have it at 1866 with stock timings and voltage.

So I repurchased this board after returning it and having a brief dance with the Maximus V Formula. Ended up returning the Maximus and getting back an OC. Here's some new build pics,

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I have problem with the front panel HD audio, if I use the motherboard HD audio connector, there is no sound, and if I use the AC97 audio connection, there is sound.
The HD audio connector was already running fine on other motherboard. Also I'm not getting the option to "Disable front panel jack detection and auto popup dialog" or the Connector settings.
And the Realtek sound manger is showing the old one and the not the new black UI.

nvm fixed. it was bad connection.

Curious to know why did you choose OC formula over asus Formula since you have both of them I assume you know their disadvantages? wink.gif

What turned me off about the Asus was the fact that they removed "Additional Turbo Voltage" from their bios. It was a pain to get my 4.8 overclock stable with a negative offset since Windows would crash with whichever negative offset I'd use clocked at this frequency though anything under 4.8 worked though with more voltage than what was required. The only way I could get 4.8 stable was with a positive offset which affected my idle voltages more than I was comfortable with and I needed more voltage to get my CPU stable than with the OC.

The Maximus had a plethora of voltages to play with which I don't see available in the OC but was more likely overkill for my use as even with all those extra options I couldn't get stable. With the OC it's been pretty much set it and forget it, throw VCC on +0.005, increase turbo offset to desired load vcore and it was smooth sailing from there. I hate I had to give up the Asmedia USB/SATA controller and Intel Network controller for OC's weaker offerings but for the extra 80 bucks I paid for the Maximus I wasn't expecting the headaches I experienced getting it stable when it wasn't much of an effort on the OC. The OC does have some features that MaximusFormula doesn't have though like the PCIE switches which come in handy when troubleshooting.

Oh, and the OC matched my ram and 580s wink.gif

I have something maybe funny

I have problem in the center of the board regarding the mounting hole, I can't get the screw get aligned correctly. all the mounting holes are fine except this one, I use Tt armor revo and ASUS P8Z77-V if it matters and the mounting holes were all fine in previous build, it is not a big deal but it doesn't look good in the case, and really first time to see something like that biggrin.gif I tried to move the board but no matter this hole can't be aligned correctly and the other holes are aligned correctly so how one hole is not aligned and other holes are aligned perfectly?
